Prompt Stash for ChatGPT stores your prompts, folders and settings inside your own browser using Chrome’s chrome.storage API. It has no server.
| Data | Where |
|---|---|
| Your prompts (title, folder, text, pins, archive flag, last-edited time) | chrome.storage.local on this device. In addition, while the whole prompt library is smaller than about 8 KB, a copy is kept in chrome.storage.sync. |
| Theme choice and whether onboarding was completed | chrome.storage.sync (falls back to local if sync is unavailable) |
| Chat folders: titles and links of ChatGPT conversations you file, folder names | chrome.storage.local only |
| Review-note state (first-use date, whether the note was shown or dismissed) | chrome.storage.local only |
About Chrome sync storage: if you are signed in to Chrome with Sync turned on, Chrome itself copies chrome.storage.sync data to your other Chrome browsers through your Google Account. That transfer is done and handled by Google under Google’s own privacy policy, not by us; we cannot read it. If Chrome Sync is off, sync data stays on this device.
The extension reads the titles and links of conversations shown in the ChatGPT page only to display and file them in its sidebar; it does not read or store the content of your conversations.

Prompt Stash does not request activeTab, tabs, history, cookies, or any other permission.
If you also use ChatFolder, its “Send to Prompt Stash” button passes your ChatFolder folders, tags and chat titles/links directly from ChatFolder to Prompt Stash using Chrome’s extension-to-extension messaging (externally_connectable). This happens inside your browser on your device; nothing goes over the internet. Prompt Stash accepts these messages only from the ChatFolder extension’s ID.
After about a week of use, the popup may show a one-time note asking whether you’d like to leave a review. The “Rate” button only opens the extension’s Chrome Web Store reviews page in a new tab. Nothing is sent, and there is no reward.
